“The location of bones doesn’t really matter to me.”

This was one of the first things that Dr. Paul Martin said to me when I stepped into the Brilliant Life Chiropractic office. To the average person with a basic knowledge of chiropractic practice, this almost sounds blasphemous. But Paul simply smiled at me and proceeded to explain his unique and refreshing take on his world of chiropractic care.

Who is Dr. Paul Martin?

The young doctor never saw himself going into the chiropractic field; he actually started college in California with an intent to major in physics. After some time he realized that that didn’t really suit him as a career, so he turned to physiology and personal training. Helping people reach their goals as well as achieving his own successes in physicality and martial arts, Paul quickly rose as the expert at his gym. But he wanted to do more.

Suffering injuries at a young age, Paul began visiting a chiropractor at 14. When he spoke with the same chiropractor years later, he left with a new goal of going into the field. Paul graduated with highest honors from Life Chiropractic College West in 2006 in California and soon after decided to call Tacoma home in 2008 with his wife and fellow practitioner, Laelle. The office started on 6th Ave and recently moved to their new location on Broadway.  The chiropractic power couple are parents to two children, Ari and Kira.

Fun fact: Both of his children experienced their first adjustment within hours of being born.

Yes, the Crossfit enthusiast doctor adjusts newborns. If that doesn’t make his practice stand out to you (or even if it does), keep reading.

What is Brilliant Life Chiropractic?

Brilliant Life Chiropractic focuses on the body’s Innate Intelligence; the true force or energy that keeps us healthy and whole as well as regulates the healing process. Paul approaches each of his clients in a very holistic manner. In other words, this isn’t a crack-and-go adjustment chiropractor. Each adjustment session is scheduled in half-hour slots which allows for the body to fully integrate each adjustment. Because of this, Paul’s adjustment room actually contains four tables where he will allow one practice member to integrate an adjustment while he moves on to the next person. The reason for this, he explains, is that so many people will leave a chiropractic’s office feeling okay and then later something feels off or worse than it did. The 30- minute timeframe allows him to see if the adjustment actually benefited the patient or if another technique needs to be exercised.

“It creates a gentle, peaceful experience,” says Paul.

What Makes Brilliant Life Different?

One of the first things Paul pointed out to me was that he doesn’t perform x-rays in consultations. Instead, he uses a scanning software that highlights the nerve connections and where stress may be lingering between the bones. The results of this scan are then used to implement the Bio-Geometric Integration (BGI) method that Paul practices. According to bgiseminars.com:

… The chiropractor is able to more effectively and gently release the subluxation and assess the effectiveness of the adjustment. The geometric understanding of the body also serves to bridge the gap between the many techniques of chiropractic by providing a common language and understanding from which to converse.”

Paul is fond of this method because he “defers to the wisdom of the body to do what it needs to do.” Chiropractic care is an essential teammate in helping the body heal itself naturally and with little help from outside substances. If you treat your body well and give it what it needs to perform, it will reward you.

Who Can Visit Brilliant Life?

Absolutely anyone of any age can visit Dr. Paul Martin at Brilliant Life Chiropractic. He has experience working with all different backgrounds and walks of life and welcomes those who have previously turned chiropractic care down.

“There are over 150 techniques of chiropractic care,” says Paul. “So when someone says, ‘Oh, that didn’t work for me,’ I say that maybe that technique didn’t work for them… and that they should try another one.”

Paul emphasizes chiropractic care for pregnancy because it can reduce labor times and ease pain. But he also encourages people that they do not need to be in pain or suffering in order to visit a chiropractor; instead, chiropractic care should be part of your overall wellness routine.
