Get Caffeinated at Tacoma Coffee Shops

Start your day at Tacoma local coffee shops.
Start your day at Tacoma local coffee shops.

Most of my mornings start with the same ritual: turn off the alarm (after a “snooze” or two), roll out of bed, fumble for my glasses, shuffle my way into the kitchen, and sleepily make myself a mug of fresh brewed pour-over. And all this before even showering or brushing my teeth.

However, on the days when I hit the snooze button one too many times and can’t afford the extra minutes it takes to brew my own coffee, I’m thankful to be surrounded by so many excellent coffee shops – all of which are locally owned and operated to boot.

But these shops double as more than just a pit stop for caffeine. Tacoma-area coffee shops are community gathering hubs, places of study, and even venues for live entertainment.

Next time you need a jolt of caffeine on-the-go or a place to sit and enjoy each sip, visit one of these Tacoma-area coffee shops.

Bluebeard Coffee Roasters
Open the door to this 6th Ave coffee shop and you’re instantly met by the hiss, buzz and trickle of espresso, a whirlwind of chatter, and a flurry of clicking keyboards. Not to mention, of course, the robust aroma of roasted coffee, made fresh on location. A popular study spot for college students, 6th Avenue locals, and visitors alike, Bluebeard Coffee Roasters brews-up quality crafted mugs of coffee to their thirsty, caffeine-devoid patrons. Located in the historic building which was once home to the iconic Rector’s Antiques, the interior of Bluebeard is a chic, urban setting, perfect for last minute cram sessions or just catching up with old friends.

Valhalla Coffee
For the past 10 years, Tacoma native A.J. Anderson has been sharing expertly roasted and exquisitely brewed coffee with the Tacoma community at his coffee shop, Valhalla Coffee. One sip and it’s obvious that Anderson’s more than 20 years of coffee roasting experience goes into curating each cup of brew sold at this 6th Avenue café and roasterie. The menu at Valhalla is simple, so making a selection is never a challenge. And, if you like what you taste (and chances are you will), you can buy a bag of beans (by the pound) to enjoy at home.
