Makers from Pierce County and beyond are invited to showcase their creativity at Pierce County Library’s third annual Lakewood MakerFest. Suggested categories include wearables, radios, woodworking, 3D printing, robotics, electronics, metal arts, music, hardware hacks, sewing and weaving, crafts, Lego Mindstorms/Master Builders, Arduino/Raspberry Pi, and customized bikes, scooters and carts. Don’t see your category on the list? That’s okay! If you can make it, you can bring it. Registration is free. Register at www.lakewoodmakerfest.org by April 3, 2015.

Lakewood MakerFest is a free all-ages event that celebrates hand-crafted ingenuity. Register as a maker to display a project, or attend this year’s event as a visitor. Meet the makers, be inspired by their inventions, and catch the making bug. MakerFest takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 2, 2015, in the Rainier Building at Pierce College’s Fort Steilacoom campus, 9401 Farwest Drive S.W., Lakewood.

Libraries are at the forefront of the maker movement sweeping the nation. A maker engages in the process of making or producing something. Makers run the gamut from woodworkers, tinkerers, coders, crafters to robot builders. The maker movement includes youth, amateurs, enthusiasts, hobbyists, innovators and entrepreneurs. As trusted community centers for lifelong learning, libraries are essential in helping people pursue their passions and explore new career paths.

Lakewood MakerFest is sponsored by Pierce County Library System and a coalition of community partners: Pierce College, Lakewood Computer Clubhouse, Lakewood’s Promise and Brown Paper Tickets.
