vicci martinezInternationally acclaimed songwriter and performer Vicci Martinez will premier her highly anticipated collection of new songs on April 18 at Downtown Tacoma’s Rialto Theater (ticket link). Martinez says her new music celebrates both her newfound creative independence as well as her journey home.

“I’ve never been more excited for a performance, at least not since I was teenager,” Martinez says. “These new songs are totally different from my previous albums and I can’t wait to share them with the community that has loved and supported me since I was a kid.”

After parting ways with Republic Records (Universal) in 2014, Martinez will release her upcoming album independently. After living in Los Angeles and briefly in Europe, Martinez has moved back to her hometown of Tacoma, Wash. – a blue-collar, port city renown for its DIY visual arts and music scenes.

Martinez has surrounded herself with a trio of Tacoma musicians and, over the past year, the four have quietly recorded a collection of over thirty new songs. The trio is comprised of Aaron Stevens and Paul Hirschl from the indie-folk/rock band Goldfinch and DJ Phinisey, known by many Northwest music fans for his hip-hop and R&B production.

Martinez says that she searched all over the world for the perfect team of artists to help her write and produce her new album, and she was both surprised and thrilled to discover that team in her hometown.

“I’ve been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to write and record with some of the music industry’s leading songwriters, but the energy I feel when I’m working with DJ, Aaron and Paul in our East Tacoma studio is truly the most soul-feeding experience I’ve ever had as musician.”

Martinez’s passionate fan base has waited patiently for Martinez to share her new music, as her last album, Vicci, was released in 2012. Highlighted by a Billboard top-20 single in “Come Along” featuring Cee Lo Green, Vicci marked Martinez’s evolution from a Pacific Northwest music mainstay and television music contest fan-favorite into a established musician with a loyal fan-base spanning the entire globe.

Known for her powerful vocals, unique style, and magnetic charisma, Martinez has toured the United States and Europe extensively throughout the past five years, sharing the stage with artists like Sting, Annie Lennox, B.B. King, the Doobie Brothers, Jonny Lang, Train and Michael Franti.

Martinez’s April 18 concert will also serve as a benefit for a Lakewood-based nonprofit Centerforce that works to connect people with disabilities to employment opportunities in their community.
