On September 26, 2015, Museum of Glass will host its largest fundraiser of the year — the annual Red Hot Auction and Gala. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in silent and live auctions throughout the night, enjoy a gourmet dinner in the company of internationally celebrated artists, and watch fiery glassblowing as artist John Kiley ignites the Hot Shop during the gala’s after-party.

A native of Seattle, Kiley began his professional career in glass at the age of 19 at Glass Eye Studio. He has since worked as a member of Dale Chihuly’s chandelier team and as a principal member of Lino Tagliapietra’s team until 2011, when he was appointed Glass Director of the Schack Art Center in Everett, WA. Kiley has completed three Visiting Artist Residencies at Museum of Glass, but this will be his first Hot Shop appearance during Red Hot.

“I’m honored to be the featured artist at this year’s Red Rot auction. I plan to create one of my signature pieces that involves joining several large blown glass bubbles together while hot,” shares Kiley. “The facilities at MOG make it possible to create work on a scale and quality that is otherwise not possible. I can’t wait to get started!“

In addition to the action-packed auction and after-party, Red Hot also features handcrafted goblets and decanters as table centerpieces, which are available for purchase during the evening and, due to their popularity, sell out before the night is over. This year, Museum of Glass is excited to partner with Seattle’s Glass Distillery to present honey-themed glass drink-ware. Handmade by the Museum’s Hot Shop Team, the 2015 goblets and decanters are inspired by the shape of honey dippers and will be filled with Glass Distillery’s Nectar vodka on the night of the gala.

Funds raised at Red Hot support the Museum’s wide array of exhibitions, the 30+ professional artists that work John Kiley working in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop; Photo courtesy of Museum of Glass. in the Hot Shop annually, military outreach through programs such as Hot Shop Heroes: Healing with Fire, and the thousands of regional youth that take part in the Museum’s educational programming.
