McGranahan Architects in Tacoma has received a Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects Southwest Washington for its design of Clover Park Technical College’s Health Sciences Building.
This is the second award McGranahan Architects has won for the building. The firm also received a Grand Prize Award in the Spring 2015 Learning By Design Architectural Showcase.
The 2015 AIA Southwest Washington Design Awards celebrate the best architectural designs available. Projects represent the finest standards in sustainability, innovation, building performance and overall integration with clients and the surrounding community.
The design team for the Health Sciences Building includes Matthew Lane, Marc Gleason, Joan Rumsey, Seong Shin and Steve Broback.
“McGranahan Architects is honored to share this design award with CPTC and the state of Washington for the new Health Sciences Facility,” said Lane, principal. “We’re proud of our work together to support the region’s expanding nursing and health sciences fields, reinforce CPTC’s outstanding programs, and strengthen the transformation of the campus. The facility’s spaces were designed to emulate the medical industry while blending with study areas to develop teamwork and interpersonal skills that model the balance of the medical profession, holistic healing, wellness and nurturing environments.”
The 56,468-square-foot state-of-the-art facility is the college’s first LEED Gold Certified facility, and houses the college’s 11 health sciences programs. The design includes laboratories, classrooms and spaces that simulate current health care facilities.
Clover Park Technical College dedicated the facility on September 20, 2013. The building serves about 1,100 students each year.
