If you are a homeowner, you know how involved the home buying process can be.

Once you find the home of your dreams and your offer has been accepted, there are many steps and milestones that must occur before you can call your new house “home sweet home.”

Throughout the purchase, you work together with many people who all play important roles in the process. From the real estate agent to the home inspector, each person involved is there to assist you in each step, but no person may be quite as important as your loan officer.

With more than 25 years of experience, Jerry Holman, VP Mortgage Loan Origination Sales Manager for Anchor Bank, knows the industry well and works hard to make his clients’ dreams come true. After all, it was helping people that led Holman to a career in banking in the first place.

Holman’s career didn’t start in banking. After graduating from Washington State University with a degree in communications, Holman landed a position in radio advertising, only to realize later that small market radio didn’t provide the income necessary to support a growing family.

In need of a bigger income, Holman found a more lucrative career selling manufactured homes. During sales, however, Holman would catch himself helping people make financing decisions — numbers just came naturally for him.

After just a few years of selling manufactured homes, Holman realized he had found his calling in finance, and in 1989 he decided to shift careers.

For the past 27 years, Holman has found himself in every role from mortgage loan officer to bank branch manager. He has built mortgage departments from the ground up and even owned his own mortgage company for 10 years, which operated in both Skagit and Snohomish Counties.

After going into semi-retirement a few years ago, Holman realized he wasn’t quite ready to leave the world of finance and helping people.

After relocating to Puyallup to be closer to family, Holman took a job with Washington-based Anchor Bank where he now serves as the bank’s VP Mortgage Loan Origination Sales Manager. Holman celebrated his one year anniversary with Anchor Bank earlier this year.

In his role at Anchor Bank, Holman gets to do what he does best: help people.

“It’s kind of the American dream to own a home,” Holman says. “In my job, I have the opportunity to watch people realize that dream.”

Whether helping people get the funds they need to buy a home, build a home, or refinance their existing home, Holman says there’s nothing quite as rewarding as helping someone achieve their dream.

“Everything we do here is to try to make our clients more successful in their own lives,” Holman says.

And as a community bank, Holman says the service Anchor Bank is able to provide to its customers is much more personalized than the service they would find at larger financial institutions.

“We have the opportunity here to work outside the box,” Holman says. “If a customer has a need that doesn’t fit the cookie-cutter, we are able to customize things when we need to.”

However, while Anchor Bank enjoys the benefits that only a smaller, community bank can, Holman says the local financial institution isn’t restricted or held back by its size.

“Whether it be online banking or applying for a loan online, we have the electronic means to do all of these things,” Holman says. “We really have our act together as far as all the modern conveniences go.”

Of course, if you do prefer face-to-face interaction, you can walk into any one of Anchor Bank’s 10 locations and instantly feel welcomed. Which is so important when making important financial decisions like applying for a loan or refinancing your home.
