A cold craft brew on a hot day is even more rewarding when it’s part of the South Sound Craft Crawl, a passport-and-stamp promotion co-sponsored by Travel Tacoma + Pierce County and Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau. This promotion of premium pints offers a 32-ounce mini growler to those who collect 15 stamps from 21 locations serving locally made beers and ciders.

In only its second year, the South Sound Craft Crawl has already expanded from its original 15 participating craft breweries to 21 this year. The program celebrates the craftsmanship available on tap in the South Puget Sound from Olympia to Tacoma. Some locations are within walking distance of each other, and seven are along the Tacoma Link Light Rail in downtown Tacoma.

Printed “passports” for collecting stamps are available at South Sound Craft Crawl participating locations and at the Visitor Information Center at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. Passports are also available via download from southsoundcraftcrawl.com.

Don’t forget to bring your South Sound Craft Crawl passport to Tacoma Beer Week! From August 1 – 6, a number of local breweries and restaurants will have special deals, concluding with the Beer Fest of Destiny event on August 6.

“It’s exciting to see how the brewing community is growing in the South Sound,” said Ken Thoburn, owner and head brewer at Wingman Brewers in Tacoma. “Where there was just a smattering of breweries a few years ago, now there are many.”

The passport has contact information for the 21 Craft Crawl locations — plus important details such as whether you can bring food or if there’s a food truck on site, if it’s kid friendly and if gluten-free options are available.
