Mystic Sanctuary: From Tarot to Crystals to Chocolate Truffles

The metaphysical, holistic and occult store, Mystic Sanctuary, recently moved from its first location at 8415 Steilacoom Boulevard SW to 2805 Bridgeport Way W #23 in University Place. The shop, a well-known stop for tarot card decks and readings, candles, books, statuary, incense, oils, crystals, herbs, tea, and believe it or not, chocolate truffles, has settled well into its new location, even bringing some customers along for the ride.

“It’s my favorite shop for all things occult,” says Xander H., a Lakewood resident who plans to keep shopping at the new location despite the farther distance. “You never know who you will meet there and I have had many an intriguing conversation with people I’ve met while shopping there.”

The store, owned by wife and husband Dawn and Chris, is a family business – there are no employees outside of the family. Dawn became interested in opening a metaphysical store because she enjoys helping people.

“People are scrambled about what spirituality is or what journey they want to embark on, so we help them with healing and with finding their spirituality,” says Dawn.

The husband and wife team decided to move the store to Tacoma because they live in Tacoma and Dawn likes “the Puget Sound area, with water everywhere, and lots going on.”

She hopes that Mystic Sanctuary provides the tools to help customers “manifest their goals and their reality, find their inner selves and live life fully.” From what we could tell during our visit to the store and from conversations with customers, we say mission accomplished.

“Most definitely do I feel my aura becoming clearer when I enter the store,” says Kay S., who stops at the store often to replenish her often used sage stash. “I like clean energy,” she adds. “I find that here. If I’m not feeling it at home, I purchase sage and essential oils at Mystic Sanctaury to treat my surroundings. I always feel at peace in the shop.”

In addition to the myriad items available for purchase at the store, Mystic Sanctuary offers tea and the aforementioned chocolate truffles for those so inclined, as well as tarot readings. There are currently four people that provide tarot card readings throughout the week and readings are available every day during business hours. The schedule for readings is as follows: Tuesday 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Intuitive reader and holistic healer Lori Jordan provides readings on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. “I’ve been reading professionally for over a decade,” she explains about how she came to provide professional readings at Mystic Sanctuary. “After a personal experience with spiritual energies, I became aware that God is love, God is light. I became awake and knew that I was called to be an instrument to awaken other people.”
