Pierce College Foundation’s 21st annual Scholarship Scramble will tee off at High Cedars Golf Club on Aug. 14 with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. sharp. The tournament has become a highly anticipated fundraiser for the college, generating more than $720,000 for student scholarships throughout its history.

This year, organizers hope to raise at least $50,000, according to Associate Director of Development Ruth Ann Hatchett. Hatchett has been at the helm of the Scholarship Scramble for the past 10 years, and hopes this year’s event helps to provide more student opportunities than ever before.

“This event has become a great way to directly support our students, while having a good time, too,” Hatchett said.

The entry fee per player is $150, which includes greens fees, a box lunch, player gifts and dinner. Sponsorship opportunities are still available as well, ranging from hole sponsorships ($250) to banquet sponsorships ($3,000). All sponsors are included in a special media presentation at the banquet following the Scholarship Scramble tournament.

It is not necessary to participate in the golf tournament to support the Scholarship Scramble. Tickets are available for $25 for the post-tournament dinner and auction, taking place at 5 p.m.

During the live and silent auction, a number of items will be up for bid, from a week in Palm Desert, Calif., to a Murder Mystery dinner at Chancellor Michele Johnson’s home.

The event’s silent auction will also feature a three-day trip to Whistler, a Dell Computer, a variety of gift cards, a Keurig coffee maker, and more.

“This is the largest fundraiser for student scholarships that Pierce College holds all year,” said Associate Vice President of Advancement Joan Penney. “The need is greater than ever for funds that help students, including veterans, overcome the various barriers to higher education.”
