Bates Technical College Welcomes New Officers Theresa Pan Hosley, Lillian Hunter

At its July 29 meeting, the Bates Technical College Board of Trustees elected Theresa Pan Hosley and Lillian Hunter to serve as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.

Theresa Pan Hosley is owner of Star Tours and president of Seasons Travel, Associate Travel, Inc. and Marco Polo Tours. She is also president of the Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation, and a board member of the Korean Women’s Association, Communities in Schools, Pike Place Market Foundation and the World Affairs Council, Tacoma branch. Pan Hosley has served as principal of the Tacoma Chinese Language School and was a member of the Fuzhou and Taichun sister cities steering committees. Governor Locke also appointed Pan Hosley as a Bates trustee in March 2002, and Governor Gregoire re-appointed her in 2008.

The college’s newest trustee, Lillian Hunter began her service as a board member in 2013. Most recently, she was the director of West Sound Technical Skills Center in Bremerton. She also served as principal and assistant principal in the Tacoma School District, and assistant principal and career and technical grants coordinator for the Peninsula School District. Hunter, a trustee for the Tacoma Public Library, holds a master’s degree in education from City University, a bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College, and a K-12 Superintendent’s credential from City University.

Washington state Governor Jay Inslee appoints a five-member board of trustees composed of community representatives to govern Bates Technical College. The board’s role is to develop and oversee college policy in accordance with state law. Pan Hosley and Hunter will assume office at the Sept. 23 Board of Trustees meeting.
