Governor Jay Inslee has appointed former Pierce County Auditor Cathy Pearsall-Stipek to serve on the Bates Technical College Board of Trustees.

Until her retirement this year, Pearsall-Stipek was the president of Votes Count, Inc., a consulting and training business. She has nearly 40 years in public service, representing the 29th district in the state legislature from 1977-1979; as a Tacoma School Board member from 1983-1989, where she oversaw the activities of school district-operated Bates; as a Pierce County council member from 1989 to 1993; and as Pierce County Auditor from 1993 to 2002. She was most recently elected to the county’s Charter Review Commission. Pearsall-Stipek attended the University of Washington’s School of Education and School of Business Administration. An alumnus of Bates, she earned a certificate in Registered Parliamentarian in 1962.

“Cathy’s extensive and diverse experience in our community adds a valuable perspective to our Board, and we are honored to welcome her as our newest trustee,” said Bates President Dr. Ron Langrell.

Pearsall-Stipek, whose term ends September 30, 2020, joins trustees Layne Bladow, Lillian Hunter, Calvin Pearson and Karen Seinfeld.

Gov. Inslee appoints a five-member board of trustees composed of community representatives to govern Bates Technical College. The board’s role is to develop and oversee college policy in accordance with state law.
