Albertsons was the winning bidder of the recent Haggen’s auction and will operate under the Safeway name at the Point Fosdick location.

“The City of Gig Harbor is thrilled to hear that Safeway will be returning to Gig Harbor. We are confident that this store will once again be a tremendous success for the entire community and we look forward to helping them reopen as Safeway as soon as possible,” said Jill Guernsey, Mayor of Gig Harbor.

“Citizens loved Safeway and they will be very happy to have the store back,” said Councilmember Steve Ekberg.

In addition to the return of Safeway, the city will see a remodel of QFC, and the upcoming openings of the Town and Country grocery store in Harbor Hills and the new Fred Meyer on the west side.

“This growth reflects the strong economic development in our area and proves that Gig Harbor is the regional commercial area on the west side of the Narrows Bridge,” said Mayor Guernsey.
