To honor their service, United States military veterans will receive a special discount to Zoolights at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium on a total of six Mondays and Wednesdays this holiday season.

The discount of $2 off Zoolights General Admission is available to all who are serving or have served honorably in the United States military, as well as to their dependents. It’s a great price break that guarantees admittance on each of those nights for just $8 per person.

The dates are November 28 and 30 and December 5, 7, 12 and 14.

A special 10 percent discount also will be available in the zoo’s gift shop on these evenings.

Zoolights brings zoo animals and local landmarks to life in more than 600,000 sparkling LED lights, providing a joyous holiday landscape through which visitors can stroll. In addition, some of the zoo’s animals are on exhibit during Zoolights. Look for massive sharks and other sea life in the aquariums, spy meerkats in their habitat and feed Nigerian dwarf goats at Kids’ Zone. Plus, ride a camel, and have a family photo taken in a stationary antique sleigh headed up by real reindeer.

Active duty military and those who have served in the past must bring proof of their service in order to receive these discounts. The special admission price is not valid with any other discounts or coupons.

Discounts for Boy and Girl Scouts

Zoolights at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium can be a very special field trip for Daisies, Brownies and other members of various Girl Scouts of Western Washington troops, as well as for their male counterparts in the Boy Scouts organization.

And there’s no better night than December 6 for leaders to schedule this into their troops’ plans.

Scout Night at Zoolights provides a discount of $2 off per general admission for every registered Girl Scout or Boy Scout in uniform (or wearing his or her pins), plus up to 10 non-registered scouts per group.

That’s just $8 per participant for an evening of great fun wandering the zoo grounds to look at more than 600,000 sparkling LED lights, ducking into the aquariums to marvel at 16 massive sharks and other sea creatures, or stopping by Kids’ Zone to feed the goats.

Tickets for this special night must be purchased at the gate, and the deal cannot be combined with any other coupon or discount.

And when visitors come to Scout Night, they can help those less fortunate, too.

Columbia Bank will be on hand that night conducting a special Warm Hearts Winter Drive. They will collect coats and other items like gloves and scarves for the people who need them during cold days and nights. The items will go to the Tacoma Rescue Mission.

Zoolights, sponsored by Fred Meyer with support from KING 5, begins Nov. 25 and runs through Jan. 1. It’s open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly, with a one-night closure on Dec. 24.
