This summer Cascade Regional Blood Services, our region’s sole provider of blood for MultiCare hospitals and health centers, is calling on local gamers to participate in their blood drive for a chance to win a top-of-the-line Dell gaming PC, while helping patients in need. Each year, millions of Americans rely on lifesaving blood, which comes from volunteer blood donations. But patients across the nation are in trouble due to donations declining at an alarming rate. Forty-five percent of the nation’s blood donors are over 50 years old, but as the population ages, levels of donations are getting harder to maintain in order to save lives.

As a way to highlight the critical need for regular blood donors, Cascade Regional Blood Services is dedicated to engaging a new generation of young donors. By partnering with eSports and Team Liquid, a world-renowned professional gaming organization with a fan base of over 7 million gamers across the country, the three organizations are devoted to educating and inspiring millennials between the ages of 20 – 34 years old to become blood donors on a consistent basis.

“With less than 20% of blood donations coming from 20 – 34-year-olds, Cascade Regional Blood Services is excited to partner with eSports and Team Liquid in an effort to encourage more donations from these key generational demographics. The 18 – 34 age group is underrepresented as blood donors, and we are on a mission to educate this demographic about the importance of becoming a regular blood donor,” states Candy Morrison, Cascade Regional Blood Service’s Director of Communications.
