June is Walk Tacoma Month, and Downtown On the Go and Step It Up Pierce County are offering virtual programs to encourage you to walk while social distancing.  Downtown On the Go has transitioned the June Walk Tacoma event, Tacoma’s Musical History Walk, sponsored by Fehr & Peers, to an active, online tour through the free GeoTourist app.  To keep you walking throughout the month, Step It Up Pierce County is offering the 30:30 Walk Challenge through the free Miles app.  Don’t miss out on these opportunities to get outside, be active, learn about your community, and earn prizes.

The Walk Tacoma: Musical History in Downtown Tacoma Walk is a 1.3-mile educational tour led by musician and local history researcher, Kim Davenport.  On this tour, Kim takes you back in time and tells stories about historic music venues, musicians, and music businesses right in the heart of downtown Tacoma.  Download the free GeoTourist app and follow the walking tour, which starts at Frost Park at S. 9th & Pacific Ave.  To save time on the tour after downloading the GeoTourist app, create an account, and save the tour to the app.  The tour will be available to you whenever you’re ready!

The 30:30 Walk Challenge encourages Pierce County residents of all ages and abilities to get outside and walk.  This is a great opportunity to set a goal for yourself to walk at least a half-mile every day in June and win prizes while you’re doing it.  The first 300 participants to complete the 30, half-mile or more walk trips in June will receive a $10 Amazon gift card.  After completing 15, half-mile trips, participants will be entered to win a $100 gift card.  All gift cards will be awarded through the Miles app.  To participate, download the Miles app and accept the challenge to begin.

Thank you to the Walk Tacoma series sponsor, MultiCare and the Step It Up 30:30 Walk Challenge partners, CHI Franciscan, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, and Pierce Transit.  These programs would not be possible without their support.
