Keeping our spine healthy and strong or helping it recover after an accident or an injury is vitally important. At Olympia Orthopaedic Associates (OlyOrtho), Dr. Gurmit Singh is their newest spine surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive surgical techniques alongside more traditional types of spine surgery. He’ll start seeing patients in March 2025 to get everyone back on their feet again.

Dr. Gurmit Singh Provides Surgical Options for OlyOrtho’s Spine Patients

Singh is a dual fellowship trained spine surgeon with expertise in both open and outpatient, minimally invasive surgical techniques for adults suffering with spinal issues. Singh’s training included work with spinal deformity, degenerative disorders and spine trauma.

“My approach to spine care is to provide the most effective treatment that addresses the patient’s symptoms with the smallest, minimally invasive surgical intervention,” he says. “One that allows for preservation of native anatomy, faster post-operative recovery and earlier return to daily life activities.”

Growing up in Northern California, Singh later hopped all over the country, including Illinois and Minnesota, for his medical training. During his spine fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), he and his family enjoyed living in Portland where he says they “greatly enjoyed our[their] time with outdoor activities, exquisite restaurants and amazing people. We also have a strong community of family and friends in the Pacific Northwest which ultimately allowed us to set our roots in the region.”

“Without a doubt, Olympia Orthopaedic Associates has talented and well-trained spine and orthopedic surgeons,” Singh says. “OlyOrtho has deep roots within the community and the region; it has been providing world-renowned, cutting-edge spine care for patients in the Pacific Northwest for years. After meeting the OlyOrtho team, I truly feel that I can add value by bringing my expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery to this practice and the region.”

Singh looks forward to offering patients a less invasive option to traditional spinal surgeries as well as more standard open procedures. “Minimally invasive spine surgery has proven over the years to allow for less blood loss during surgery, reduced risk of muscle damage through muscle sparing approaches, less post-operative pain, faster recovery from surgery and decreased reliance on pain medications after surgery,” he explains.
