Dr. Chase Foster Answered the Call of the Pacific Northwest
A Texas native who trained in the Washington D.C. area for almost 10 years, Foster and his family recently “answered the call of the Pacific Northwest.”
“I finalized my training in Seattle,” he says, “and I knew the Pacific Northwest is where I wanted to stay almost immediately after arriving. I visited Olympia, and quickly realized that this idyllic city would be a wonderful place to live and work. OlyOrtho’s reputation in the community preceded it, along with the amazing surgeons that established it as the place to go in the region for brain and/or spine surgery long before I arrived. The opportunity to join a like-minded group of well-trained and well-respected surgeons to provide healthcare to the Olympia community was too good to pass up.”

Foster even brings OlyOrtho patients new options and technologies in the spinal field, including endoscopic spine surgery. He explains that this procedure “doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel, just to make it smaller.”
Endoscopic spine surgery is minimally invasive and works to decompress pinched nerves and even the spinal cord itself. It uses a very small tube and camera to directly visualize the site. Thisapproach is small enough that doctors may not even need to remove bone for the process and muscle damage is minimized. While it’s not designed for all spinal procedures, “when appropriately applied,” says Foster, “it’s a powerful tool.”
“The training I received at the University of Washington in endoscopic spine surgery is a new offering to the community,” explains Foster. “This ultra-minimally invasive means of surgically treating the spine is a powerful tool in any spine toolbox. These two facets of my training will complement and augment the excellent care already being provided to patients in Olympia and the surrounding region.”
The body’s peripheral nerves link the brain and spinal cord to other parts of the body, explain medical experts. This includes nerves in your arms, legs, face, chest and abdomen. Peripheral nerve surgery can relive pressure on impacted nerves, thereby reducing pain, or it may reroute bad connections, so to speak, which have caused reduced range of motion and even disability.
You shouldn’t ignore or postpone addressing either spinal or peripheral nerve issues as they can both lead to bigger problems which require more invasive procedures to repair.
Helping the Community is a Family Affair for Dr. Chase Foster
When not working or settling in from a cross-country move with his family, Foster enjoys playing the guitar, watching premier league soccer, exploring the outdoors, exercising and spending time with his loved ones. Now that they’re in the Northwest, he even hopes to take up fly fishing.
Foster’s wife shares his passion for helping others with their medical issues. “She is an amazing interventional radiologist in the region working at Providence St. Peter Hospital,” he says proudly. “And we’re just both so excited to be here.”
