Harvest Home

September 6, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

As summer comes to a close, the arrival of fall is a welcome change, and no one does it better than Fort Nisqually in Tacoma, Washington. On September 6, families are invited to participate in Harvest Home, the living history museum’s celebration of the final harvest of the year.

Harvest Home highlights traditional 19th-century activities including historic cider pressing, corn husk doll making and straw plaiting. Learn all about how to make apple butter over an open fire, stop by the Fort’s kitchen to try samples of baked goods and add decorations to the Fort’s hock cart before it parades the final harvest of the year. In the afternoon, enjoy music and dancing on the lawn led by the Harvest King and Queen, chosen from the museum’s teen apprentice interpreter volunteers.

Guests can also show off their heritage skills and bring a jar of their best homemade jam or jelly for a friendly preserves competition, emceed by Tacoma TV’s Cityline host, Amanda Westbrooke.

This event is free for museum members. Admission for non-members begins at $13, and children 4 and under are free. Discounts are available for seniors and active military with ID. Purchase tickets online at FortNisqually.org or call (253) 404-3970.
