The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County

Located in Central Tacoma, the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is the hub for lost, abandoned and hopeful pets looking for a forever home in Pierce County. The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County was founded in 1888 after the people of Tacoma were disgusted with how a logger was mistreating a bear by kicking it and forcing it to do tricks. The love the community had for the bear created the opportunity for the organization to open its doors in the Tacoma area.

There are always several wonderful animals available at our local Humane Society. No matter if it’s a sweet cat, bouncing rabbit or loving dog, your ideal pet is waiting for you to bring them home. “I think the greatest things about adoption through the Humane Society like ours is that you are really giving an animal a second chance at life,” says Aubrey Clement, Animal Placement Coordinator with the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County. “We take in 8,000 animals a year and, through adoption or finding their owner, we are able to put people and pets together. These animals know, they love you for it and it’s just a great bond that you can get when you come to visit one of our special pets here.”
