Kaiser Permanente has big plans to open its newest clinic in the South Sound, located in Gig Harbor. Kaiser Permanente was founded on the belief that everyone deserves a chance to live a healthy life, which is why at its clinics you can expect to find high-quality care and coverage in one place, along with a fantastic team of physicians, physician assistants, medical assistants, and patient access representatives.

Opening the day after Christmas, Kaiser Permanente’s new 4,205-square-foot medical office will feature six private exam rooms and will offer primary care, various lab services, electrocardiography (EKG), diabetic retinal scanning, as well as behavioral health assistance for those with Kaiser Permanente care coverage.

Dr. Byron Doepker, Gig Harbor’s Kaiser Permanente Physician in Chief specializing in family medicine, believes in health care that prioritizes prevention over treatment and seeks to address the whole person. “I’m very excited to be coming on board in Gig Harbor because I feel there is a true sense of community here,” Dr. Doepker tells us. “I am a Washington native, having grown up in Spokane before moving to Seattle for my undergraduate studies. I left to attend medical school at the University of Pittsburgh, but returning to the Northwest was always the plan.”

Dr. Doepker finds the importance in evidence-based care and population health, motivating him even more to work with Kaiser Permanente to help provide the best possible healthcare for our South Sound community.

“I consider the Kaiser Permanente organization my home,” Dr. Doepker states. “I have previously served on the King County Academy of Family Physicians board of directors, and I am certified as an American Academy of HIV Medicine Specialist. I embrace the broad scope of practice in family medicine, and I have personal interests in pediatrics, HIV medicine, and LGBTQ care. I love the variety of people I work with and the challenge inherent to every day as a physician. We have a really great group of staff members coming on board at the new Gig Harbor medical office, including Dr. Laura Turgano, who is local to Gig Harbor.”

Dr. Turgano hopes to promote understanding and aims to support patient interest and investment in their own personal health. “In my medical practice, I strive for open communication that encourages questions,” Dr. Turgano states, “I am especially interested in women’s health, pediatrics and adolescent care. As family physicians, we are present for some of life’s most joyful and most difficult moments, and we are able to develop deep relationships with our patients. Each day provides new challenges and learning opportunities.”

Dr. Turgano, local to the Puget Sound, grew up on the Kitsap Peninsula and later attended medical school in Arizona. She later returned home to the Pacific Northwest to complete her family medical training and believes that each day at Kaiser Permanente provides a new learning opportunity or challenge.

Kaiser Permanente exists to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of members and local communities. The organization is committed to helping shape the future of health care and is recognized as one of America’s leading health care providers. They serve more than 700,000 members and support the health of communities throughout Northwest Washington, Central Washington, Eastern Washington, the Coastal and Olympic regions, as well as the Puget Sound region. Its new Gig Harbor medical office is coming soon and will open for business on December 26, 2018. Patients who have Kaiser Permanente medical insurance coverage can now make appointments online or over the phone, and can be seen once the clinic is officially open later this December.
