Celebrating their one-year anniversary, Ocean5 in Gig Harbor has been fueling fun in the South Sound as the region’s newest, state-of-the-art gathering place and gaming complex for both kids and adults. The 57,000-square-foot complex features a two-story laser tag arena, cutting-edge arcade games, 22 bowling alley lanes, dining options, and is the world’s first multi-attraction entertainment and gaming facility to earn a LEED certification due to its innovative and environmentally sustainable design.

“This past year has been an incredible journey,” Tomoko Senechal, Ocean5’s Director of Sales & Marketing tells us. “We’ve met so many wonderful people in the community, and seeing them have fun and connect in our building motivates us every day. This is why we’re here – to inspire connections – and we look forward to another year of great experiences together!”

Troy Alstead, former chief operating officer of Starbucks, founded Ocean5 in 2016. Stepping away from his corporate career, Alstead chose to pursue a dream inspired by his love of places where friends and families could gather, connect and have fun, mixed with his deep love for the ocean. Alstead’s goal was to create a space in the heart of the Puget Sound that offered activities the whole family could enjoy, while driving awareness and inspiring action to improve the health of our oceans and waterways.

Named after the world’s five great oceans, Ocean5 has remained one of the region’s most environmentally responsible buildings throughout its entire construction and as it operates. The gaming complex is an energy-efficient facility that reduces stress on the environment with help from its innovative design elements and decision to source all food ingredients locally and responsibly.

The building was created with thoughtfully recycled and reclaimed materials, such as its carpets that were made from recycled commercial fishing nets that had washed ashore, and décor made from reclaimed wood sourced within 100 miles from the site. Alstead’s dream of bringing together a community while making a positive impact became a reality when its doors officially opened for business in April 2018.

Ocean5 offers 22 lanes of bowling in its bright and colorful ocean-inspired bowling alley. Enjoy food and drink service for your group right in your own bowling lane, with the option to play a round of classic 10-pin bowling or take your game to the next level playing duckpin bowling. Duckpin bowling is a variation that requires one to use a slightly heavier ball that fits into the palm of the hand and lacks holes to put your fingers in. Duckpin bowling pins are also smaller and shorter than in a traditional game of 10-pin bowling. Ocean5 is the first bowling alley on the entire West Coast to introduce a duckpin bowling option, as this style is typically played in regions along the East Coast.

With enough room to seat 300, Table 47’s dining room and bar showcase a farm-to-table menu, which offers meals made with fresh and flavor-packed locally grown produce and ingredients deriving from our region’s local farmers, distillers, brewers and winemakers. Enjoy everything from classic bar favorites like wings, burgers, and a wide assortment of small and shareable plates, to delicious and beautifully prepared dinner entrees, desserts, brunch options, and even a Quick Fire menu featuring food options guaranteed to be at your table in under 15 minutes from the time you order. Table 47 provides various portion sizes in order to help minimize food waste, staying true to their mission of staying environmentally friendly.
