Harbor Heights Promotes Community with Special Monthly and Seasonal Events

Harbor Heights embodies luxury living with a spectacular view, inspired amenities and a team that strives to further develop connections among the residents. Concierge Alicia Easley and Sales and Events Coordinator Sarah Prohim both serve the community by helping create fun events that keep the community warm and welcoming for everyone. They plan and support a number of ongoing activities, including a monthly Wine Wednesday with a fun new theme, bunko nights, field trips to local businesses in Downtown Olympia, and workshops, such as Paint-and-Sips, with experienced instructors. Their calendar is full of fun and engaging ways to meet neighbors and learn something new.

“How we try to go about planning things for residents involves coming together as a team to make it fun throughout the year and different months,” explains Sarah. “Seeing the smile on their face and them laughing together is the best part about hosting these events. I have never been in a space like this where everyone is basically one big family.”

The holidays are a great example of this sentiment, especially considering not every resident may live close to or have family members of their own. Even in those circumstances, each person can count on an array of seasonal events to celebrate those special times of year with each other. Harbor Heights goes all out for Thanksgiving and Christmas with festive decorations and catered meals around the holidays and plans great parties with themes like ugly sweaters or gift of giving. “We start to put up decorations, and people get so excited about the time of year,” Alicia says. “We get to take part in their holiday joy as well and bring cheer to others who we wouldn’t normally be with during the season.”

Even other holidays come with fun ways to celebrate. For Halloween, Harbor Heights hosts an owner and pet costume contest, which is a big hit for the pet-friendly and dog-loving residents. In the summer, the community puts on a community block party to celebrate the Fourth of July and enjoy the Lakefair fireworks in the evening, which can be seen perfectly from the terrace. No matter the season, residents can look forward to some exceptional ways to connect and celebrate.

Residents Expand Interests with Resident-Led Activities

The community is extremely close-knit, and the staff invites residents to be active participants in brainstorming or planning the goings-on, which helps foster the warm and homey environment found at Harbor Heights. “If there is something that we are not doing or that isn’t already being done, we are more than happy to kickstart it to get it off the ground, whether they need game pieces or flyers,” shares Alicia. “There is always the opportunity to start something new, and we love to help facilitate it and then see them run with it.” With such a neighborly community, it is easy to explore new hobbies or find others who share the same interests as you.

Currently, the residents lead a number of fun activities on a regular basis. Every Tuesday and Sunday a resident organizes a movie in the Harbor Heights theatre, and many game clubs have formed for favorites like bridge, mahjong, and poker. The residents have also put together a monthly potluck on the second Thursday of the month where everyone brings a dish and socializes. Even on a daily basis, residents gather for morning coffee to chat and head to the spectacular deck at 5 p.m. for social hour with drinks of their choice.

“The events, the location, the building, the staff, and the residents all make this wonderful community what it is,” Alicia says. “I love the familial bonds formed here, and I really feel like this place takes you back in time a little bit to your ideal community.”
