Succeeding in intensely physical activities – whether that means sports, an active blue-collar job or a hands-on hobby – takes more than just the right training and equipment. It requires a competitive spirit and internal drive. Sometimes, though, we fall victim to age, accidents, illness or injuries. When that happens, it’s tempting to throw in the towel for a more sedentary lifestyle. But you don’t have to give up what you love! At Olympia Orthopaedic Associates, they care for bones, muscles and joints as a full-service musculoskeletal clinic. Their new hire, Dr. Brendan Masini, brings his cutting-edge knowledge of orthopaedic sports medicine to town in early 2025.

A Minimally-Invasive Approach to Shoulder, Knee and Hip Repair at OlyOrtho
Masini will begin scheduling patients after New Year’s 2025 and is excited to start this next chapter of his personal and professional life. He specializes in treating complex injuries to the shoulder, knee and hip.
“I am especially interested in getting athletes and workers of all ages back to a healthy, active and competitive sporting lifestyle,” says Masini. “Aided by a specialty which includes expertise in arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip for treatment of cartilage, ligament and muscle injuries.”
“Olympia Orthopaedic Associates has the reputation of the finest comprehensive orthopaedic and spine practice in the South Sound region,” says Masini, “and I consider myself fortunate to join a team so dedicated to the care of patients. I have worked closely with the group over the past three years and am constantly impressed by the professionalism of the group and the dedication to patient care. At OlyOrtho the patient really does come first.”

From the Soldier to Surgeon, Dr. Brendan Masini Joins the OlyOrtho Team
Masini and his wife traveled extensively during his career in the Army. Their children were born in San Antonio, but they’ve also lived in West Point, NY and Colorado Springs, CO. The last six years have been spent locally as he’s currently stationed and soon will retire from Joint Base Lewis McChord and Madigan Army Medical Center. “We love the Pacific Northwest and are happy to make our home here,” he says.
As a senior Army surgeon, Masini brings many years of experience to the OlyOrtho team. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Keller Army Community Hospital in West Point, where he treated elite athletes, including cadets from the U.S. Military Academy. It was there he focused on finding minimally invasive solutions to complex injuries to facilitate rapid recovery and optimized performance.
He was also an active-duty orthopaedic surgeon with the Army. He cared for service members and athletes at all levels, including those with high-performance demands and unique orthopaedic challenges. Masini’s specialties include arthroscopic surgery, sports injury prevention and repair, joint preservation and cartilage restoration.

Helping Athletes and Active Lifestyle Individuals Recover Better Than Ever
“In particular, one of my interests is minimally-invasive treatment of hip injuries, including treatment of hip labrum injuries, which should expand the capabilities of the practice,” says Masini. “I also have served as the senior surgeon for the Armed Forces Sports, the Army World Class Athlete Program, the Olympic Training Center, and both professional and Division I college athletic programs. I am ready to help care for the competitive athlete and weekend warrior population of the South Sound with shoulder, knee and hip concerns.”
Each patient receives a personalized care plan to help them understand—and stick with—OlyOrtho’s high standards of treatment. Masini also believes strongly in patient education and community outreach. When not working, he stays active by keeping up with their three children and exploring their newest home in the Pacific Northwest.
