KCTS 9

KCTS 9 today announced Our Hearts Live Here, a series of events and opportunities to bring the community together in the face of the novel coronavirus.

“Our community is our greatest strength in times of adversity,” said Robert Dunlop, president and CEO of Cascade Public Media, which operates KCTS 9. “The novel coronavirus has forced us, for a time, to change the ways we interact with family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Our Hearts Live Here is a chance to spread some joy during the difficult moment we’re living in.”

The first Our Hearts Live Here challenge starts this weekend.

Residents across the region are asked to decorate their outdoor spaces—doors, windows, porches, patios, anything that faces outside—to bring joy to neighbors as they walk by.

“As we stay at home primarily, outdoor walks have become a treat for many of us,” Dunlop said. “We want to share the great spirit of the people in our community with the folks walking by.”

Participants can show off their work with the hashtag #Ourheartslivehere and tagging @KCTS9 on social media. In the coming weeks, the KCTS 9 team will air some of their favorites on KCTS 9 television and share them on social channels.

What to decorate with? Whatever’s on hand! Holiday decorations; sidewalk chalk; words of encouragement to those keeping us safe and healthy; silliness to make your neighbors smile!

All the information people need to participate is online at KCTS9.org, which includes a submission form for photos.

And remember: follow safety and health practices when decorating. Stay six feet from others, and wash your hands when finished.

KCTS 9 may send producers to film the most creative designs. Those selected will be contacted by email by April 13.
