Tacoma Opera’s General Director, Noel Koran has announced that Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme will open the company’s 49th Season.
Based on Henri Murger’s novel “Sc?nes de la Vie de Boheme” La Boheme premiered in Turin on February 1, 1896, conducted by the young Arturo Toscanini. The libretto is by Puccini’s favorite librettists, Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. Its US premiere took place the following year in 1897 in Los Angeles. Since then, La Boheme has become part of the standard Italian opera repertoire and is one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide.
There is a free lecture one hour prior to curtain in the theater before each performance. Senior discounts are available for persons over 65 years old and there is a student rush one hour prior to curtain.
