The annual Bates Technical College Foundation fundraiser, Bates Sizzles, will transport you to the tropics on Thursday, April 30, 5:30-9 p.m., at the Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway Street, in Tacoma. Bring your appetite, and we’ll provide the Mai Tais.
The college’s award-winning Culinary Arts program will cater the event. The chef instructors note the menu is packed with Polynesian food “with a twist,” featuring dishes like chicken oso buco with coffee ginger glaze, shrimp with mango coconut salsa, and Kauai meatloaf topped with red pepper potato mousse. For a sweeter treat, guests can try macadamia nut diamonds, almond chocolate mousse bites, and kiwi and pineapple tarts.
The room will be packed with a large selection of silent auction items and students selling raffle tickets. The night will feature a hula performance, music from Wayman Chapman, and a fun Polynesian-themed photo booth.
Scholarships play a key role in our students’ higher education endeavors, and the annual Bates Sizzles helps raise funds for student scholarships. Students are eligible to apply for the foundation’s general scholarships, and others can apply for a variety of program-specific scholarships. Scholarship recipients in various career education programs may use their awards to help pay for tuition, books, supplies and child care expenses at the college.
