It’s common to see young children navigate an iPad with the same ease as a teenager—but how much screen exposure is safe for kids? This year’s Brain Series will focus on providing parents and caregivers with a framework to help guide children’s media experience.
Director of the Outreach and Education division at the University of Washington’s Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences (I-LABS), Dr. Sarah Roseberry Lytle will discuss the topic of media exposure through a presentation surrounding screen media use among young children. She’ll focus on how, when and what preschool-age children learn from screens, and she’ll offer resources and guidelines to help you make decisions about screen use for your family.
This year’s Brain Series marks the 18th year Bates’ Child Studies department has brought experts in the field of child development to Pierce County for a two-hour seminar, open to the public. The event coincides with the annual Scholastic Book Fair, held in the same location, April 30 through May 2. Learn more about the book fair on the college’s Facebook page.
