From supporting ethically-minded work practices and helping keep jobs local, to simply having an appreciation for quality-made goods, there are countless reasons why people choose to purchase American-made products. Kaleb and Candice Tangen of Foothills Family Furniture in Lakewood, Wash., recognize these benefits, which is why they take pride in stocking their showroom with a variety of American-made and locally sourced furnishings and decór.
Foothills Family Furniture is a family-owned and operated furniture store that has been serving the South Sound for three years. And, while Foothills Family Furniture may be young, it is backed by Kaleb’s more than 10 years of experience working in the furniture industry. With a deep understanding of the industry and an overwhelming commitment to customer satisfaction, Foothills Family Furniture knows how important each piece of furniture in your home is, which is why they take extra care in providing their customers with furniture they can feel good about.
Step through the doors of Foothills Family Furniture’s showroom and you will find beautiful, American-made couches from California, bedroom sets built in Oregon, mattresses from Olympia, Wash., and even handmade, custom oak furnishing made right here in Lakewood.
“We try to offer American-made options for every room,” explains Kaleb. “We feature three different American-made bedroom manufacturers and three different American couch manufacturers. All of our mattresses are made locally in the South Sound, and we even feature items from Lakewood-based Grandwood Furniture.”
Kaleb says if you’re looking for completely customizable, handcrafted, solid oak furniture, Grandwood Furniture has what you’re looking for. And, if they don’t, they’ll make it. “All of the furniture is made about one-half mile from our store, and it’s completely customizable,” says Kaleb. Grandwood makes everything from coffee tables and bookcases to complete bedroom sets and more. “It’s all very reasonably priced, too,” says Kaleb. “We sold a complete oak bedroom set a few weeks ago for about $4,500. And that included all of the custom work, too.”
Being able to provide their customers with quality furniture that won’t break the bank is something that Foothills strives for. The fact that they are able to do this while supporting locally and American-made manufactures, well, that’s the icing on the cake.
Foothills Family Furniture also carries a wide selection of locally-made mattresses. Take a tour of their showroom and you’ll find mattresses from Tacoma’s Mattress Makers, Inc., a Puyallup producer, and a wide variety of brand name Sealy mattresses made just down the road at Sealy’s Olympia plant. Kaleb says he’s proud to carry a name brand that people trust and recognize, while being able to support a locally-based business at the same time.
In addition to Washington-made mattresses and furniture from Grandwood, Foothills Family Furniture also offers a selection of couches made in Mississippi and California, and handcrafted furnishings from Oregon-based furniture maker, Oak Craft Manufacturing.
As the trend toward shopping locally and buying American-made goods continues to gain popularity, Foothills Family Furniture, a locally owned and operated business, is happy that they can provide the Pierce County community with furniture made right here in the U.S. Being a small business, the Tangen’s understand how shopping locally and supporting independently owned businesses positively impacts the community, which is why they work hard to source the merchandise in their showroom as close to home as they can.
So, what are you looking for? Something for the living room? Bedroom? An accent piece? Chances are, if you can think of it, Foothills Family Furniture has it. And, if they don’t, they’ll find it. That’s all part of their commitment to providing outstanding customer service. Kaleb says Foothills will always go the extra mile to meet their customers’ needs. If you don’t see what you’re looking for on display in Foothills Family Furniture’s showroom, let Kaleb or a Foothill’s staff member know, and they’ll track it down for you. And they’ll always beat the prices of their competitors, too.
Foothills Family Furniture is conveniently located right off of I-5 on the corner of 100th St. SW and South Tacoma Way in Lakewood, Wash., between Joint-Base Lewis-McChord and Tacoma. The next time you’re in the area or on the hunt for an addition to your home, the Tangen’s invite you to visit their showroom and let them help you find what you’re looking for.
