Stephanie Anne Johnson is hosting “An Evening with Stephanie Anne Johnson: A Jazz Life Evolution” at Tacoma Youth Theatre, on May 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Spend the evening with Stephanie Anne Johnson as she soulfully sings your through her jazz life on and off the stage. Experience the music that has inspired her musical journey as she highlights classic jazz pieces from both musical theatre and striking female performers.

While growing up, Stephanie’s ears were filled with the likes of Etta James, Cab Calloway, Bonnie Raitt, and Aerosmith.  When those influences melded with guitar lessons, voice coaching, and a study of the classics, a raw, soulful dreaminess began to pour from her pen and her lips. As gritty emotion spilled forth, Stephanie found herself performing her songs to international audiences in a wide range of venues.  From the intimate setting of an acoustic performance in her hometown of Tacoma, to the always moving stage of a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, Stephanie’s voice exposes the underlying emotions that we as humans so often have to hide in our day-to-day existence. It’s music to fall in love.

In partnership with Tacoma Youth Theatre, Stephanie Anne Johnson offers a matinee performance, “An Artist’s Journey with Stephanie Anne Johnson,” on Saturday, May 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for young artists and their families. Tickets for this Pay-What-You-Can performance are available at the door on May 23 at 1:00 p.m. Johnson will share her journey — from Tacoma to “The Voice” and beyond — through music and conversation, offering young artists the chance to hear from an artist actively working on her craft and explore what it takes to perform professionally.

“I am strongly called to support a thriving community for young artists. As an adult working in performing arts, it is important to me to show young artists that this is both a viable career choice, and that it takes hard work and strong sense of self to keep working towards your dreams,” said Johnson.

All proceeds from this matinee performance go directly toward supporting Tacoma Youth Theatre’s mission of accessible programming for young artists in the community.

Tickets for the evening (May 22, 2015, 7:00 p.m.) performance are available online at www.sajmusic.brownpapertickets.com.
