Submitted by Downtown On the Go!

Join Downtown On the Go and Tacoma’s Deputy Mayor Victoria Woodards on Tacoma’s First Neighborhood Walk, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from noon to 1 p.m.  The 1.8 mile walk, sponsored by Commencement Bank, will start and end at the Woolworth Windows at 11th and Broadway and head up the hill to the Hilltop Neighborhood.  Participants will see the Ford Building, a community garden and parks, beautiful murals, and Normanna Hall. There is no need to pre-register for the event, simply join Downtown On the Go at the meeting spot.

Walk Tacoma events are a great opportunity to get exercise in your workday, while learning about the community.   Marie Stewart, TrueBlue Inc. employee and Walk Tacoma participant said, “I get to see things that I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been on the Walk and had the speaker point them out.  I’ve been on three of the Walks so far and I’ve grown to appreciate just how rich and quirky our city really is.  I am thankful to work in such a vibrant downtown area and want to encourage everyone who works or lives in downtown to learn more about Tacoma by joining Downtown On the Go for a Walk.”

Walk Tacoma 2014, sponsored by Franciscan Health System, is an eight-event walking series held on first and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks, now in their fifth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The Walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work or at a lunch break.

Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go (950 Pacific Ave, Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at 253-682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org.
