Tacoma Moon Festival @ Chinese Reconciliation Park | Tacoma | Washington | United States

The Tacoma Moon Festival this year highlights three East Asian cultures with traditional moon festivals- China, Japan and Korea. A new feature on Heritage Stage this year includes a “storytelling hour” that will mix traditional moon stories with the writings of Tacoma’s early Chinese immigrants read in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Opening performances will be Seattle’s celebrated Mak Fai Martial Arts Group with their spectacular Lion Dances and martial arts demonstrations. Subsequent performances will showcase Tacoma’s Japanese Kabuki Academy, Taiwan Aboriginal Dancers, the YMCA, Evergreen Chinese School, and Northwest Korean Dancers. By popular demand, the Hwa Sheng Chinese Opera Club of Seattle will return again this year to conclude the entertainment with their magical Beijing Opera. The Heritage Stage entertainment begins at 1:30 pm and concludes at 7:30. Other community groups will take the stage at the Fuzhou Ting for calligraphy demonstration, Hawaiian dance, martial arts and Taichi, as well as a variety of hands-on activities for all ages. Kite making will be another focus this year; with kite masters and volunteers on site to teach how to make and fly paper kites. Moon Princess will return to lead a parade in the Reconciliation Park and bid farewell to all at the end of the festival.
